The session of Beckley Presbyterian Church is divided into seven ministry groups. Each ministry group is responsible for certain areas of church life and accountable to the session.
Ministry of Administration
The Ministry of Administration is responsible for the functions of Stewardship, Long-Range Planning, Personnel and Special Offerings.
Ministry of Christian Education/Campus Ministry
The Christian Education/Campus Ministry of Beckley Presbyterian Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ by: Equipping children, youth, and adults with an expanding knowledge of the Christian faith by focusing on Sunday School and other educational experiences; Providing the church community with the opportunity to explore what it means to be “Christ in our time”. Mission trips and youth activities are sought out and encouraged: Cultivating a desire to reach out, welcome, affirm, and love every individual as Christ first loved us. We welcome the possibilities that Campus Ministry will afford us with the students attending WVU Tech, Beckley campus. Our education program provides classes through the year, and every Sunday has online Sunday school at 9 a.m., with in-person Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. at the church.
Ministry of Church Growth and Service
The Ministry of Church Growth and Service focuses on providing opportunities for our members to grow spiritually through fellowship and service opportunities and to seek out new members from the larger community. Activities such as Contributions to Our Missionaries, Adopt-a-Family, Chili Night, Congregational Sunday Lunch, Christmas Concert After the Parade, The Carpenter’s Corner, Support to PineHaven Homeless Shelter, projects at Hospice and Helping Hands.
Ministry of Congregational Care
The Ministry of Congregational Care nurtures members of our church family in times of need and hosts special events in the life of the church. This ministry group provides support to families through funeral meals and receptions and the gift of memory candles. They prepare baskets for new babies and new members to help welcome friends to our congregation. They host special receptions like one to welcome newly installed elders and also host special annual events like the church picnic and the ice cream social.
Ministry of Property
The Ministry of Property is responsible for the routine maintenance and upkeep of the church property. They also keep an eye towards the future to plan for the long-range property needs of our ministry.
Ministry of Worship
The Ministry of Worship is responsible for the worship life of the church in addition to emphasizing and supporting fine arts as an act of worship. They plan special services and provide for events like organ concerts and art displays in the Witherspoon Room.
Presbyterian Women is a churchwide organization whose membership is open to all women. The members are women who choose to participate in or be supportive of the organization in any way. Because we believe that diversity contributes to wholeness, PW intentionally seeks the membership of women from all racial-ethnic groups, so that the organization may reflect a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence.
